Nothing formal. We will ask what the business does, roughly what size it is, how the books are handled now, and what is prompting the call. If you happen to have last year's return or a recent profit and loss statement in front of you the conversation gets more specific faster, but it is not required and you should not send anything sensitive before we are engaged.

Pricing is quoted for the work in front of us rather than billed by the hour against an open-ended estimate, and you see it in writing before anything starts. What it costs depends on the size and complexity of the business and which services you need, so we will not quote a number before we understand the situation. You will not get a surprise invoice from us.
